Volunteer

Wednesdays from 1-4pm and Saturdays from 9am-1pm

Interested in volunteering? Please just show up to volunteer hours on Wednesday or Saturday.  No advance notice or appointments required.

We have very limited hours and capacity, and may not respond to every email but we'd love to see you at the garden!   If you are a larger group intersted in planning a volunteer day, please contact us or visit us during volunteer hours.

"Every seed saved will set us free. In a time of opulence and scarcity, every seed saved will set us free. In a time of intensifying violence and climate calamity, every seed saved will set us free. Hold on tight to the source. We have all that we need." - Naima Penniman

"Revolution is based on land. Land is the basis of all independence. Land is the basis of freedom, justice, and equality." -Malcolm X

Farming an acre with volunteers is no small feat. Many hands are needed, and we welcome yours. We invite you to come dig, weed, learn, teach, ask questions, take a shift on irrigation, share ideas, or donate materials or funding. You can help in whatever way you’d like. Volunteering with us is rewarding because it is tangible—you can watch it grow!—and for the simple satisfaction of working with others on something meaningful. Working in the garden is also a fun way to complete needed community service hours.

Work/Play Days

Wednesdays 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m.

If you’d like to volunteer in the garden, please bring a sunhat and sturdy shoes. Tools and water provided. No experience necessary. Children welcome. Se habla español.

Principles of Community Roots Garden

Inspired by and in solidarity with EZLN.

1) To serve, not to serve yourself

2) To represent and not to supplant

3) To construct and not to destroy

4) To obey, not to command

5) To propose and not to impose

6) To convince and not to win

7) To go down and not to go up
